175th Anniversary
South Oxford railway history trail
This trail was originally laid out during June 2019 as part of the celebrations marking the 175th anniversary of the opening of the Didcot to Oxford railway. It was only intended to be a temporary event and so the posters were all taken down, but it had proved to be of such great and lasting interest that the decision was made to preserve it in some way. We therefore digitised all the posters and the map to produce this page as an interactive resource. Should you wish to retrace the trail on foot, both the original posters and the trail map can be viewed and downloaded in pdf form so that they may be printed for personal reference. Please note that copyright is retained by the author and they must not be used for any other purpose without their express permission.
Discover the fascinating and hidden history of the first railway in Oxford by following this special interactive trail. Learn how the railway influenced the development of the area and how it changed over time, and glimpse into the lives of some pioneering local residents who were associated with early railways.
